“What’s in a name? A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.”
You’d be hard-pressed to find someone who isn’t at least vaguely familiar with this time-honored quote. Penned by William Shakespeare, it is uttered by Juliet as she’s standing on her balcony, considering her situation with Romeo and the feud their families have been engaged in for years. It speaks to the power, or lack thereof, of names.
Given that we happen to agree with Shakespeare’s insightful observation, it begs the question: Why did we change our name from Velocity Leadership Consulting to Exponential Results?
After all, regardless of what we call it, our company will continue to offer the highest level of business coaching and leadership development services in the industry. We will maintain our mission of helping senior leaders, executives, divisional teams, and business owners maximize their potential.
What’s more, we will remain the sole consultancy of its kind to employ the principles of neuroscience in our methodology. Using proven methods based on how our brains work, Exponential Results will keep helping our clients uncover blind spots and transform the behaviors that are holding them back. So we’re not simply offering motivational speeches and friendly advice. We’re relying on neuroscience that works – and we will employ it regardless of what we call ourselves.
With all that said, we wouldn’t blame you if you were now scratching your head, wondering why we agree with the Great Bard himself who said names don’t really matter – and then proceeded to change ours. Really, who are we to argue with the greatest writer the world has ever produced?
The reason is elegantly simple. Our previous name sufficiently conveyed the answer to the question, “What do we do?” What it did not adequately convey was what we help our clients achieve: Results.
Regardless of what line of business you’re in, it all comes down to results. It doesn’t matter how hard you work, how pleasant you are to your customers, or how stylish your conference room is. All that truly matters is the goal: did you deliver the results that your client wanted and paid for?
Velocity Leadership Consulting has always been about results. Our methodology is unique, and our coaches are unparalleled in their expertise. (We also have a very stylish conference room.) But our greatest asset is our ability to achieve results – through our patented Power Pathways™ Method; our six distinct leadership development services, some brand new; and of course, our understanding of human behavior and how to change it.
And just what kind of results are we talking about? The kind that teaches your executives to maximize employee potential; transforms mental obstacles which hinder professional growth; nurtures an environment of diversity and inclusivity, and ultimately improves your bottom line.
More specifically, we produce “exponential” results. The term “exponential” has many definitions, but the one we had in mind when we changed our name is, “characterized by or being an extremely rapid increase (as in size or extent).” And trust me when I say, those are the kind of results we promise to deliver.
So, I guess that’s a long way of saying we’re the same company, but we felt compelled to change our name in order to place more emphasis on the area that truly separates us from our competitors.
With all due respect to Shakespeare, there really IS something in a name.
